Black Friday Revisited

Let's start with Die Hard, shall we? All you need to know is that the first is the best. As fun as the airport one is, and as cool as Samuel L. Jackson is, the first is still the best. Let's not talk about the fourth one.

Who doesn't love John McClane running around with no shoes, a wife beater, being super sassy to terrorists. And by sassy I mean he swears a lot and kills a bunch of them.

Seriously though, if you haven't seen this holiday classic you need to get with the program quick. Here is an overview:

New York city cop just arrived in L.A. for Christmas to see his estranged wife and kids. She had a career opportunity that he didn't fully support. She is working for the Nakatomi corporation making moves! He is coming for Christmas to hopefully mend fences. He gets to the Nakatomi tower in L.A. to meet his wife at her company Christmas party. The tension is thick from the start. Obviously they love each other, but what do they do? She is using her maiden name, which makes him very upset, but she explains that it is just because of the Japanese way of doing business, and he is all like yeah whatever, and then BAM... terrorists.

And did I mention that Severus Snape is the leader of this band of terrorists?

Well, he is. And he is awesome.

John realizes something is going down and uses his cop tingly senses to escape notice while all of the other party guests are taken as hostages. The terrorists have a plan. But they didn't plan for John McClane.

Sounded like a tag line because it should have been.

Things get complex as the terrorists have a brilliant plot, but what are they really there for? John finally gets the cops to arrive, who try some stuff, then the FBI comes and muddies the waters, all while John is avoiding certain death as he seeks to derail this party from the inside.

And did I mention the dad from Family Matters is there? And that he is also a cop?

This movie has everything. The character arcs are brilliant. The music sets the perfect tone. Bruce Willis has some of the best one liners in history. The plot unfolds like a chinese puzzle... okay that may be an exaggeration, but not by much. It really moves wonderfully. All storming to a stunning conclusion, and ending with Christmas music!

Unfortunately the best lines from the movie are, shall we say, sassy, so I won't quote them here. But come on, if your wife had just been taken by terrorists and people were trying to kill you every few minutes, wouldn't you be kind of tense when the 911 operator is giving you lip? That's what I thought.

My darling wife had never seen this movie, but yesterday, on glorious Black Friday, she was introduced to the best Christmas movie of all time. These were her words at the end:

"Wow, Michael, I know you are right about a lot of things, but when you said this would change my life, I had no idea how right you would be! Best movie ever."
- Krystle Dawn Perkins

It's an exact quote.

I could write for a few days about how delicious our lunch was while we watched this masterpiece. But suffice it to say, it was a fitting meal for the movie experience.

Later that night we watched the documentary about the Australian guy going on a juice fast. I wasn't really that excited when we started it, but after choking up two or three times and being absolutely inspired I am ready to turn this life around.

Costco here we come. To get a juice machine. So we can juice.

And Black Friday hasn't even been chronicled fully! Krystle hasn't written about her fashion conquests saving millions of dollars. I haven't elaborated my Barnes and Noble adventures of the soul.

I will tell you one thing though, Amazon James Bond book sale. Hook, line, sinker. They got me.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend people!
